Happy to take the win🏆

Zerotech Steel Safari - by Anthony, 08.04.24

On the weekend I shot the @precisionrifleseriesnz @zerotechprecision Steel Safari held at Sparrowhawk.

Epic spot for a match, probably the most scenic range in New Zealand. Target acquisition was key as the match had multiple large pans on most stages. That combined with the very subtle wind changes happening all day through the big valleys made it a great challenge.

First time back on the 6BRA since November so a nice change to not have recoil after a few months on the 6.5 Creed👌🏻

Happy to take the win🏆 in a close match.

Ahititi Long Range Challenge & Kahles Southern Precision Challenge - by Anthony, 27.02.24

The start of the 2024 season really crept up fast, and straight into it with back to back 2 day matches.

First up was the Ahititi Long Range Challenge hosted by
@tlrs_nz this was a practical field style 2 day match with 16 stages out to 1200m.
Great match with a bit of everything and mild conditions.
I made some mistakes on day 1 which left me chasing on day 2 but eventually came away with the win🏆
Thanks to Graeme for hosting the match.

Then this weekend we had the first @precisionrifleseriesnz match for the 2024 series down south.
The Kahles Southern Precision Challenge hosted by @theclawnz
Windy and wet conditions made it interesting on both days across the 18 stages. I shot 15/18 stages well but had some issues on 3 stages, early season rust has yet to disappear😬😅 but in the end managed to still take the win🏆 by a couple points.

Very happy with the start of the year with 2 wins from 2 matches.

And of course it wouldn’t happen without those who support me and provide the best gear in the game.

Sparrowhawk South Island PRM Finale & Section 22 Rimfire Finale - by Anthony, 4.12.23

Last matches for the year for me done and dusted.

Saturday was the South Island PRM finale held at Sparrowhawk.
12 stages in one of most scenic match spots in NZ.
Perfect shooting conditions with very little wind made for a high scoring match with not many separators, leaving me tied for 1st but luckily managed to take the win due to the tie breaker stage.
I also managed to take the overall season win with a perfect season score of 450 with 3 match wins plus finale win🏆

Today was the
@section22nz South Island Rimfire Finale.
Unfortunately we ended up having to scrap a couple stages due to weather/not being able to see targets.
I ended up 2nd for the Match, Congrats to Sam, very well shot.
I hadn’t shot enough rimfire matches this year to be in contention for the series unfortunately.

Thanks to the organisers and landowners for running great matches.

Tarata Teams & Individual Match - by Anthony, 13.11.23

Got home from the USA on Wednesday straight into the Tarata practical teams match on Saturday followed by the individual match on Sunday run by @gpreventsnz

Knowing that these matches are very much a practical field style I opted for a lighter setup 6.5 Creedmoor which is a new setup to for me.

@ianhardyrifle and myself teamed up for the Saturday and managed 3rd place after some challenges through the day.

Sunday individual match went a little better, I had to fix some data issues on the first 2 stages but went well after that.
I finished the day strong and managed to take the win in open class🏆

Thanks to the organisers and land owner.

Precision Rifle Series Pro Series Finale, Kansas, USA - by Anthony, 06.11.23

2023 @precisionrifleseries Pro Series Finale at Twin Peaks Rifle Club in Kansas USA is done and dusted.

What a phenomenal event, they really know how to put on a match here in the US.

20 stages over 2 days. Each stage presented its own set of unique challenges with target layout, time and movement.
Weather conditions had a factor also with heavy mirage at times, strong winds the second half of both days and the sun (shadowing and glare due to the approx 270deg COF)

I wanted to come here and shoot to my potential and I probably achieved 98% of that.

I’m extremely happy to finish Top International shooter for the match and 24th overall against the best 250 shooters in the world.

Now it’s time to get home and start the improvement for next year to try and get closer to the top.

Australian Precision Rifle Series Finale - by Anthony, 18.10.23

Precision Rifle Series Australia 2023 season is complete. I competed in 6 Australian matches this year wrapping up with the finale last weekend.

I came in with good prep and high hopes but unfortunately I made it harder than I should of by having a very poor first two stages and was chasing for the rest.

I finished the match in 5th place which left me in 2nd for the championship series. I’m both happy for the result but disappointed at the same time.
Congrats to Ash for being as consistent as ever and taking the series win.

Attention now turns to the US Finale in 2 or so weeks then a few NZ matches to finish off the long year.

Sparrowhawk PRS & Section 22 South Island Rimfire Series Round 4 - by Anthony, 12.10.23

Wet conditions last weekend down at Sparrowhawk for the @blackgear_nz PRC match.
Nice to have a match with not a single prone shot.
Great match put on by Sam and the team.
I was reasonably happy with how I shot dropping 4 shots from 108 and taking the win🏆

Sunday was another @section22nz South Island rimfire series match, conditions were a lot better with only a gentle wind.
Another great high round count match with 166 scoring shots taken and 153 hit giving me the win🏆 thanks to Blair for hosting again.

The last couple of days have been spent prepping and testing before I leave for the @precisionrifleseriesaustralia Finale tomorrow.
The 6BRA is hammering as always and I’m feeling good about the match, sitting equal 1st in the series so it all comes down to this.

Nightforce Remarkables 2023 - Queenstown

- by Anthony, 25.09.23

Cool weekend in the best part of the world for the Nightforce Remarkables PRM match hosted by Alpsoutfitters in Queenstown.

Friday we had a 22LR side match which I managed to take the win with my Vudoo.

Saturday morning was the 1200yd shootout. I was unfortunately knocked out in the 3rd round of sudden death by not picking up on a wind shift and slipped the edge with my 33XC.

This was followed by the main PRM match with 12 stages out to 850m the little 6BRA was on point with me scoring 95/100 to take a comfortable win with a 16 hit margin back to 2nd.

Today (Sunday) was a 223 match on a similar COF with 8 stages in fairly strong winds. I spent most of the day holding 1-2mils for wind which made it a lot of fun. Once again I took the win with 61/64 hits.

Again, this is one of the best spots you get get for a match, very cool.

Australian PRS Victrix Capital Clash - Canberra

- by Anthony, 11.09.23

Another round of the @precisionrifleseriesaustralia PRS done at the Victrix Capital Clash in Canberra.
It was a good match with some really small targets and winds that were unpredictable at the best of times.
The match was a good test for the new rifle that performed well 98% of the time, few kinks to work out in regards to feeding still but it’s feeling good.
I finished up in 5th, massive congrats to the guys above me, very well shot in those conditions.

Bit of work to do leading into finale next month, 3 of us are on 200 now with a big group in the 190’s it is going to be a close battle for the series honours, let’s go😎

Sparrowhawk Teams Match & Section 22 South Island

Rimfire Series Round 3

- by Anthony, 06.08.23

Back down South at Sparrowhawk this weekend for the Sparrowhawk teams match on Saturday and @section22nz South Island rimfire series match on Sunday.

As usual @ianhardyrifle and myself teamed up for Saturdays match. We decided a couple weeks ago that we would shoot our 300 Norma Imp’s because….well why not🤷🏻 there’s nothing not cool about shooting 230atips in front of 96gn powder😎
Turns out the target distances had been shortened a bit due to the weather forecast on match day but the weather never eventuated to anything so we were fairly over-gunned.
We battled the recoil to take the win in a great match.

Sunday was the 3rd (maybe 4th) round of the Section22 South Island rimfire series and I decided to run my Vudoo in my C4 chassis. Took the addition of a few weights up front to balance it out making it very heavy, even though I knew there was some unsupported shooting the cool factor outweighed the potential lost points.
In the end I took the win making it a double for the weekend.

Big thanks to Nick and Blair for running two great matches in one of the best spots in the country.

- by Anthony, 03.07.23

Another successful trip over in Australia this time at the @precisionrifleseriesaustralia @delta_tactical Steelpocalypse held at Eagle park, Little River in Victoria.

In true Little river fashion it turned on the wind with challenging conditions both days. Saturday saw 9 stages and 79 points on offer, I dropped 6 which included 3 from a mental error🤦🏻‍♂️
Sunday saw 6 stages with 60 points on offer and I dropped 3 which proved good enough to take the win.

Zeiss King of the Hill - by Anthony, 03.07.23

Another trip to Aus for the @precisionrifleseriesaustralia 2023 Zeiss King of the Hill match at Hilltop, NSW this weekend.
What a cool match, the COF was really good with technical target sequences, big solid props, tight times and some very small targets scattered throughout.
Hilltop is the biggest match of the year with a lot of very good shooters.

I was able to take a close win with only a handful of points separating the top 3. Looking better for the series now with a couple of matches to go. Already thinking forward to the next round in 4 weeks.

TLRS Masterpiece Arms Winter Match - by Anthony, 27.06.23

Another weekend, another match…
The Masterpiece Arms Winter match hosted by @tlrs_nz
This match was heavily field match themed with plenty of compromised positions and unsupported shooting sprinkled throughout.

I was running a much lighter setup than usual and it was perfect for the match.
I shot well on most of the stages cleaning a few and only dropping 1 hit on a few.
Unfortunately one stage went horribly, a very tricky loophole type stage and all I could hit was the sticks and branches in front of the firing position no matter how many times I adjusted the tripod resulting in a zero for the stage.
This inevitably cost me the win but am happy to come away with 2nd🥈

Precision Rifle Series Australia Gunsport Trading Winter Classic - by Anthony, 13.06.23

Another weekend over on the West Island at the @precisionrifleseriesaustralia Gunsport Trading Winter Classic held at Buchan, Victoria.

This trip was a little different with 3 of us kiwis heading over.
Friday practice and sight in went well with the rifle feeling a lot better after the changes made to improve stability and balance.
Saturday and Sunday saw very good conditions with no wind. The COF was good with lots of movement and target sequences that required a bit of thought.

I was happy to finish 3rd overall in another close battle with Guy to continue on from last season.

Boundary Creek 2-Tier PRM - by Anthony, 15.05.23

Day one was windy with bright sun shading some targets which proved a challenge for spotting your shots. Dropped more shots than I was happy with but finished up in 3rd only 3 impacts behind.

Day two was much better with overcast, still conditions. Scores for the whole field were very good compared to day one and it was very close.
Fair to say I had a couple of things out of my control go my way (unlucky @longrange_wilkie) allowing me to move up into 1st place overall for the match.

Overall pretty happy with how I shot and pleased to take the win. Im now heading back to Australia to get into this years PRS series over the next couple months."

Great match on the weekend at the Kiwi Precision series match hosted by @tlrs_nz and @kiwi_precision

This was my favourite stage. Stage 8: Posts, 10 shots, 9 positions, single 150mm target at 302m

I was forced to shoot the match with my 223 as the 6BRA was in the workshop getting re-throated. Lucky my 223 is an absolute hammer😎

Ahititi Long Range Challenge Debrief - by Anthony, 27.02.23

Big weekend on the tools at the Ahititi Long Range Challenge.

Friday saw the 1km and 1mile shootout for both magnum and non magnum class.
I went in with high hopes but the unfavourable windy conditions were going to be a challenge.
In the 1km magnum the 33XC went pretty well getting 3/5 hits on the 1MOA plate. Non magnum not so good with the 6BRA getting no hits partially due to a small data error on my part that had me 0.3mil low.
The 1mile went very well with the 33XC stacking 6/7 hits on the 600mm plate narrowly missing the 1st shot.
The little 6BRA managed 2/7 with a massive 5.8mils of wind on.
End result was 3 of 4 class wins; Magnum 1km & 1mile also the non magnum 1mile.
🥇🥇🥇

Then onto the main event on Saturday/Sunday which saw varying conditions with decent winds and some rain as usual.

Stages varied from close unsupported shooting, tough tripod loophole stages, solid props, not so solid props and prone long range out to 1150m
End result after 16 challenging stages was the match win in open class 🏆🥇

Big shout out to Graeme @tlrs_nz for putting on a great match, Mark for the awesome venue, all the sponsors and of course the volunteers.

Kahles Southern Precision Challenge Debrief - by Anthony, 20.02.23

Challenging conditions this weekend at the Kahles Southern Precision Challenge.

Day 1 saw fairly good weather and 10 stages that went pretty well for me apart from one misread stage brief which cost me 4 hits.

Day 2 was really strong winds with 8 stages. I started well dropping 4 shots in the first 4 stages of the day then had a real issue on the tank trap with the buffeting winds only getting 2/8 on that stage. Overall I’m happy to come away with a hard fought 2nd by 1 hit.

I also took the win in the 1200m challenge with 8/10 hits with my little 6BRA in good winds (ended up with 3mils wind) shooting against some big calibers.

Ultimate Hunter & King of the Range Debrief - by Anthony, 23.01.23

Great weekend down south at Sparrowhawk for “Ultimate hunter” on Saturday and “King of the Range” on Sunday.

The Ultimate Hunter is a fairly unique match with 20 shots at 20 animal silhouette targets with vital zone plates.

Weather was damp with poor visibility at times (just like real hunting).
I shot my full carbon 22 Creedmoor and dropped 4 shots for the day to end up tied on points with Ian, but ended up 2nd on the tie break.

King of the Range on Sunday saw much better weather with mild wind.
The target order and impacts for the day were:
2002m 4/5 impacts
1802m 3/5 impacts
1007m 5/5 impacts
1505m 3/5 impacts
1638m 4/5 impacts

The 33XC was extremely consistent all day with the only thing to worry about being wind calls. I ended up 1st overall in the King of the Range and 1st in open class.

Thanks to Sam (Rifle ranch targets) for putting on a great weekend and Nick and the team at Sparrowhawk for hosting these great matches.

There really needs to be more “Big Gun” matches in NZ! There’s nothing quite like sending rounds at 2km
